PERFORMANCE 

Opera Director, choral & orchestral conductor, Professor Dr Andrew Lawrence-King is the world's leading exponent of historical harps and an international authority on Historical Action.

 

THE MUSIC ZONE

As a performer and director Andrew Lawrence-King has won the US Grammy, Russia's Golden Mask, Australia's Helpmann, UK Gramophone, German Phonographic Association Echo Prize, Dutch Edison, Spanish Premio, Noah Greenberg Award for medieval music, American Handel Society Prize for Opera, Erwin Bodky Prize for Early Music etc. Andrew has recorded 8 solo albums, directed a dozen more with The Harp Consort etc, and appears as solo harpist on more than 500 CDs and DVDs with Jordi Savall and others. He directs the early opera production company  Il Corago and is principal guest conductor for Concerto Copenhagen and L'Homme Armé Florence.  

 

RESEARCH

Dr Lawrence-King is Senior Visiting Research Fellow at the Australian Research Council's Centre for the History of Emotions where he investigates Early Opera and Music & Consciousness; Professor of Early Harp at the Guildhall School of Music & London; and teaches at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

 

TEACHING

Prof Lawrence-King has taught at Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, ESMUC Barcelona, Akademie fur Alte Musik Bremen, Sibelius Academy & Metropolia Helsinki and presented lectures, seminars, workshops and conference papers at Oxford, Cambridge, Yale, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth universities and at music conservatoires worldwide.

 

FLOW 

Andrew is a professionally qualified sailor (RYA Ocean Yachtmaster, with commercial endorsement), a marathon runner, and a student of fencing (Historical Rapier & Modern Epée) and taijiquan (Tai Chi). He is a qualified (non-clinical) Hypnotist.
